Wreck Train
Big Hook

The wreck train.

This is an enlargement of part of the previous photo, showing the wreck train.   The loco looks similar to the one involved in the wreck, but since #315 was the only C430 on the GB&W, I'm guessing it might be one of their C424s, based on what   looks like a distinctive bulge at the end of the long hood, just below the roof line.

The car behind it looks like an old 40-foot outside braced wood sheathed boxcar, probably too old for interchange service but still used on maintenance of way trains.  This may well have been one of the GBW 8100- or  KGB&W 5500- series cars which were retired from revenue service about the time of this wreck.

Back to the 1969 Train Wreck photos.
